The News
Jaroslav Halak was officially introduced as the Blues' new starting goalie on Thursday morning, according to the
St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Our View
Given a four-year, $15 million contract after being acquired from Montreal this summer, Halak will attempt to be the man for a team that has been without a long-term solution in goal for nearly a decade. In 45 games (43 starts) for the Habs in 2009-10, he went 26-13-5 with a 2.40 goals against average.

The News
Following a series of unfortunate tweets, back-up Lightning goalie Dan Ellis has left Twitter, according to
Yahoo! Sports.
Our View
Somewhere in between comparing hockey players to heart surgeons and complaining about his new $1.5 million contract, he lost the hearts and minds of the Twitter masses. He may or may not be missed.

The News
According to
Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune, the Blackhawks signed Ryan Potulny to a one-year, $500,000 contract.
Our View
The forward should be a nice addition for Chicago. He racked up 15 goals and 17 assists with the Oilers a season ago.

The News
Yann Sauve was involved in an automobile accident in Vancouver Saturday, according to
Ian Walker of the Vancouver Sun.
Our View
Sauve's said to be "making very good progress," and his status will be updated at a later time. He's expected to play the majority of the 2010-11 season in the AHL, although he still has a year of junior eligibility.

The News
According to CBC's
Jeff Marek, James Sheppard has a "fractured patella in his left knee."
Our View
He is without a time-table for a return, and is extremely doubtful to be ready for the beginning of the regular season in October. In 64 games a season ago, he notched just six points.

The News
The Canadiens have signed free agent center Jeff Halpern, according to CBC's
Jeff Marek.
Our View
Thirty-four years old, Halpern tallied 19 points in 71 games between the Lightning and Kings last season. He'll provide some nice veteran leadership on Los Angeles' third and fourth lines.

The News
Evgeni Malkin may be moved from center to right wing this season, according to the
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Our View
Jordan Staal is expected to move up to the second line at center, which would likely shift Malkin to right wing. He's played the position before and would apparently be fine to do so again and should remain productive, regardless.

The News
Fredrik Modin has signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers, according to
TSN.
Our View
In 44 games between the Blue Jackets and Kings last season, he tallied 11 points and 26 penalty minutes. He won't be fantasy relevant, but he could be productive in 2010-11.

The News
The Bruins have signed Wyatt Smith to a one-year deal, according to the
team's official site.
Our View
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Smith scored 48 points over 70 games in the AHL last season.

The News
The Penguins have signed Mike Comrie to a one-year deal, according to the
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Our View
Comrie will earn $500,000 next season. That should put him a distant second fiddle to his newlywed wife, actress and pop star Hilary "Lizzy McGuire" Duff.
